Run Your Own Employment Help Wanted Ad!

Now we're going into some really sneaky, backhanded tactics. This is a highly controversial trick that may or may not appeal to you. I’m just giving you the option without recommending anything.

You’re out there banging your head against the wall trying to find a new position in your chosen field but are frustrated by your lack of progress. One fellow came up with a truly unique approach. He sat down and wrote a want ad for a non-existent job for which he was fully qualified.

He kept the wording a bit generic but insisted on some minimum qualifications such as the undergraduate degree and industry experience that he himself possessed. Then he ran his ad as a blind box ad and waited for responses.

In a week he had a stack of resumes from eager applicants a full foot tall! He then carefully read each one and noted any creative approaches. He used this information to improve his own resume in a number of different ways.

When he was finished, he had the most effective high-impact resume in the stack. (Another interesting tidbit - When he scanned the resumes he received, he recognized the names of several ex-coworkers he’d known some years before!)

The negative here is the price. Unfortunately the ad can cost a pretty penny especially if you live in a major metropolitan area. And you’ll have the cost of the post office box rental on top. But it can be a devastatingly effective tactic in some situations.
